At A & A's Chihuahuas, we believe that every generation should be healthier and more resilient than the last.
Our program is built on transparency, science, and compassion. We combine OFA and Embark testing with our proprietary BreedGuru™ system to make data-driven breeding decisions. As proud members of the AKC Bred with H.E.A.R.T. program and the Chihuahua Club of America Health Committee, we lead research into Chiari-like Malformation and Syringomyelia to improve long-term outcomes for the breed.
Our standards go far beyond what is required, covering health certifications, genetic diversity, lifelong support, and responsible breeding practices that preserve the integrity of the Chihuahua.

BreedGuru™ is the genetic matching system we built ourselves to make winning breeding choices. Every pairing runs through DNA results, OFA clearances, structural measurement, and pedigree analysis before any decision is made. Other programs use what they have. We use what we built.

Above What CHIC Requires
We host the Canine Health Clinic twice a year, an OFA testing event open to the breeding community, and we go beyond what CHIC requires for the breed. Every breeding adult clears four OFA certifications: heart, patella, eye, and BOAS, the newly approved respiratory function evaluation for Chihuahuas. We add an advanced cardiac echocardiogram on top of that. Every puppy is Embark tested and microchipped before it leaves us.

From Wolves to Wanda
The verified pedigrees go back to the 1920s. The interesting part starts much earlier. Through Embark DNA and haplogroup analysis, we trace our lines back to the Eurasian wolves these dogs descend from, then forward again through the trade routes and migrations that carried small companion dogs alongside their humans across continents. As a Forensic Genealogist, Tanya works that deeper record the way she would build a case file: sourced, cross-referenced, documented. It is the foundation of the breed-origins book she has in progress.

Our dogs live in homes. They play outside. They have couches and people and routines, the way every pet should. Our in-house enrichment and socialization program, designed by a training specialist on our team, begins at birth and continues straight through to the day a puppy goes home with their family.
