Meet Reef
Reef is a bright, curious, and endlessly active little boy who loved every minute of his time in the show ring. His clean outline, easy movement, and joyful attitude carried him to his AKC Championship with confidence.
Reef is a cream long coat — soft, golden, and as elegant as the breed allows. But what you see is not the whole story. Reef carries a hidden brindle in his DNA, a trait masked by the gene that gives him his cream coat and revealed only through DNA testing. He is a quiet study in genetic depth: an Island of Secrets, named for exactly that reason.
He has recently begun his breeding career, and we are excited to see him contribute his wonderful temperament, elegant structure, and inquisitive charm to the next generation.
An Island of Secrets
Look at Reef and you see a soft cream long coat — clean, elegant, exactly the color the eye expects. Look at his DNA and you see something else entirely. Reef is a hidden brindle, carrying the genetic code for striped markings that his cream coat refuses to show. Every cell knows. The coat just does not tell.
Coral reefs are nature's best-kept secret — vibrant, layered ecosystems hidden under the surface of the water, full of color and life that look like nothing from above. Reef is named for that exact paradox: a quiet exterior holding far more than meets the eye. His registered name, "Island of Secrets," follows the same idea. What you see is not the whole story.
For breeders thinking about their next pairing, Reef's hidden brindle is the kind of genetic depth that opens doors — the surface coat says one thing, but his potential as a sire says quite another.
About Reef's hidden brindle. Reef carries the brindle gene at the K Locus, paired with dominant black. On most dogs, brindle would show as visible striping. Reef's cream coat is produced by the "ee" gene at the E Locus, which switches off all dark pigment across his coat — and with the dark pigment goes the visible brindle. His brindle is real, just invisible. For breeders, that means Reef can throw brindle puppies when paired with a partner who is not "ee". Knowing the genetic profile is half the work of a thoughtful pairing, and we publish his Embark results so other breeders can plan accordingly.
