Meet Klaus

Klaus is a four-and-a-half-pound brindle merle on a rich chocolate base, smooth coated and structurally exceptional. He carries one of the most genetically distinctive coats in our program — the kind of dog you remember after one glance.

Klaus is not a show dog by nature, and we do not force the path. His future is in performance events — the work he genuinely enjoys — and as a young sire whose value to the program is structural and genetic rather than ribbon-counted.

What Klaus brings is significant. An exceptionally low coefficient of inbreeding (COI 0.06%), a clean panel across all four major Chihuahua disease tests, and a coat genetic profile that opens thoughtful pairings other programs simply cannot offer.

Will the Real Swim Shady Please Stand Up?

Two pop culture references collide in this one. The call name "Klaus" is a tip of the hat to Klaus Heisler — the East-German-defector goldfish from American Dad!, the most over-explained, melodramatic side character in animated history. The registered name "Swim Shady" is the wink: Eminem's Slim Shady, gently rewritten for a fish-themed Klaus.

Two layers, one name. Equal parts neurotic goldfish and rap alter ego, no further explanation needed.

What Klaus's COI of 0.06% actually means. The Coefficient of Inbreeding is a measure of how genetically related a dog's two parents are — the lower the number, the more genetic diversity the dog carries, and the lower the risk of inheriting two copies of any harmful recessive gene. Most pedigreed dogs sit between 5% and 15% COI. Klaus's 0.06% places him in the top tier of genetic diversity within the breed — the kind of number you only achieve through deliberate, multi-generational outcrossing. Combined with his clean panel across all four major Chihuahua disease tests and his rare brindle-on-chocolate coat, Klaus offers pairings that very few American programs can.

A note on Klaus's merle. Klaus carries one copy of merle. For breeders, this means he should only ever be paired with a non-merle partner — merle-to-merle breedings carry serious health consequences for puppies, and we test every potential mate before considering a pairing. We mention this openly because responsible color breeding starts with transparency, and a dog like Klaus deserves a buyer or breeder who understands what makes his coat both rare and worthy of respect.
